Sara Hong gave the bible study on Mark 5 talking about how Jesus healed Jairus's daughter and the bleeding woman. Jesus doesn't only want to heal us but he also wants to connect with us relationally. Afterwards we had an awesome night of dumpling making!
Jisup gave a bible on John 2 about the wedding in Cana. In life, things don't always go the way we expect no matter how much we plan for it. Things always run out. Jesus who turned water into wine at the wedding shows that he can recreate things and it also signifies that he can cleanse us from our sins.
Nghia gave the Bible study on Mark 2:1-12 and talked about the paralytic and his friends and their faith. Furthermore, he talked about how faith requires more than intellectual knowledge but also requires actions. After the bible study we had fun going around the Berkeley campus and playing photo scavenger hunt!
Caleb gave the Bible study this Friday on John 5:1-9 where it talks about how the paralytic was so focused on getting into the healing pool to be healed. Caleb mentioned that we all have our own pool like career, romance, academics where we think it can give us something but the reality is it fails to give us what we want.
This Friday we listened to a Bible study given by Nghia on Mark 2:1-12, in which a paralytic is brought to Jesus at painstaking cost and laudable faith by his four friends. Afterward, we played several games from Minute-to-Win-It.
This past Friday was our first igsmFriday of the year! We had Taiwanese pork over rice for dinner and Jisup gave a talk through Genesis 1 in the bible and talked about how it actually meshes with the scientific theory of creation (the Big Bang, etc.). It was an enlightening talk, and he gave us a framework for understanding the bible that fits well with the scientifically minded person. Afterwards the graduate students hiked the big C and the undergrads played Ninja!
Friday marked our International Student Welcome Night for the Fall semester! We started off the night with home-grilled Korean BBQ for dinner, and then Shufei presented an engaging talk on Zaccheus' encounter with Jesus (Luke 19:1-10). Though we may be aware of our inadequacies, Jesus accepts us just as we are when we seek him, and we got to hear several personal stories of how Shufei personally experienced this truth in his life. After the talk, we finished the night with a rousing game of Human Bingo.
On Saturday, we had San Francisco outings in two different groups! One group had some great dim sum at Golden River before going for a nice, relaxing, and incredibly scenic hike at Land's End! The second group also had dim sum, hiked to the Golden Gate Bridge, and went to Pier 39! Come join us for our outings next time we have them! See all the pictures here.
IGSM is an official Christian student group at UC Berkeley. We are primarily a graduate student group, but we also welcome undergraduate students, and visiting students and scholars. The students in our group come from many countries across the world, including the United States. Our mission is to “love locally, impact globally", in which we seek to create a "home away from home" for students at Berkeley. We offer weekly Bible studies, and special talks and lectures on topics such as science vs. faith. We also offer English class, small group gatherings, fun trips around the Bay Area, sports, among other things. If you want to know more about us, contact us here, or come to our upcoming events!
